If I have an unhealthy diet during my pregnancy should I still breastfeed after giving birth?
Ok during my pregnancy I have had a bad diet (fast food, etc) but every once in awhile when I get a chance I will eat fruits and some vegetables but mostly my diet has been unhealthy and I was wondering even if my diet is unhealthy should I still breastfeed after giving birth to my son???

defo breastfeeding is the best as although you have not eaten the best you can you can always change that but breastfeeding protects your baby from things like athsma and eye problems it builds your babys immune system up more than formula. its also beneficial to you also it with protect you from certain cancers and brittle bones later in life.

YES YES YES of course you should! Your body will take the BEST nutrients out of what you eat… Heads up though… You will not be feeling so good while nursing and not eating well… baby will be getting the nutrients and you will be getting the crap.

Even a sucky diet results in breastmilk that is superior to formula. Unless you have certain medical problems that could actually negatively affect your health, you should still try to breastfeed your son.

Since you don’t ordinarily eat fruits and vegetables, may I suggest you buy a juicer? It’s a little loud, but juice made from fresh veggies and fruits is better than none at all. The juice (both vegetable and fruit) sold in stores is pretty devoid of vitamins. My uncle is also a fast food junkie and his health improved measurably over 3 months when his kids gave him a juicer. Make sure you get one that does vegetables, not just fruit.

Your milk will be made from the best you have in your body. The only person who is going to suffer form your bad diet is you. It is the same with pregnancy. The baby gets what it needs, even if it makes your teeth start falling out from sucking it from your stores.

I don’t get if you KNOW your diet is unhealthy…why not just change your diet? That is kind of selfish if you ask me. I mean, why are you so worried about breastfeeding when you have been eating junk while the baby was inside you? Why not just change your diet a bit. You can still indulge in junk foods occasionally (we all do it) but for the most part, to make sure your baby is healthy, just eat healthy foods most of the time. You are putting yourself at risk for gestational diabetes, which can cause all kinds of problems, and putting your baby’s health at risk as well. But to answer your question…yes you can still breastfeed. Just change your diet. And if you are not willing to do that for a short time for the health of your baby…then you have bigger problems than eating junk food if you ask me. Good Luck!!

Well they say breast is best.
Just try eating a balanced diet once the baby is out you will have no food aversions and shouldn’t have any cravings. You should be good!

    good luck!!
